Another good outing for Cruz

The Lee Beard tuned tuned Funny Car driven by Cruz Pedregon had another good outing in Topeka Kansas.
The Snap On team debuted a new Toyota Funny Car body at the Dollar General Summernationals and seemed to be the car to beat, until a dropped cylinder forced the 8,000 horsepower car over the centerline disqualifying Cruz's run .

Yes it is a little bit overdue with an update, but the Live Fast Images crew did make a quick road trip to Palm Beach Raceway to shoot many of the nitro teams as they prepared for the 2012 season.

While most families are roaming through the stores shopping for Christmas presents, it sounds as though a few drivers could be out shopping for a new seat for the 2012 NHRA  Full Throttle Season.
 There is lot of talk that 2010 Top Fuel Champion Larry Dixon may not be in the Al Anabi seat.
 Team mate and 2011 Top Fuel Champion Del Worsham has already announced that he would be taking over as a crew chief for the Patron backed Funny Car driven by Alexis Dejoria.

Don Schumacher had plenty of reason to be happy at the season ending race in Pomona , as all 3 of his Funny car drivers were in contention to win the championship of 2011.
 Taking home the Wally of the event and the $500,000 Championship was none other than Die Hard Battery sponsored driver Matt Hagan

An announcement was made at the end of the 2011 season  that Mopar , Jegs Automotive and Jeg Coughlin would be reuniting in the Pro- Stock ranks

Pat Dakin and his crew made a long journey out west to the Las Vegas race and season ending Pomona finals in 2011.
 Although the team did make some pretty good runs at both facilities, they did not qualify their 300 mph Dragster at either event.
One could only guess that even though they did not make the show , fun was had by all that made the trip,and hopefully data was gathered that will help them in the upcoming 2012 season.

Pro Stock legend Warren Johnson may have been smiling in this photo, but as the 2011 season ended  , WJ  did something that he has not done in over 29 years.

 He did not go 1 round of racing the whole season.

 

A few days after the season ending NHRA race in Pomona ,  a surprise to many fans and followers of drag racing swept through the airwaves and media print , as team owner Kenny Bernstein announced his retirement from drag racing.

  This came as a shock to many, as 2 seasons ago racing legend Don Prudhomme closed his doors of drag racing and focused his efforts in other forms of motorsports .
   Questions immediately arose of if Brandon would start his own team , or try to align himself with another present team for the 2012 season.
  Fans of the Bernstein team will have to wait  to see where Brandon lands and also who will be the benefactor of the Copart sponsorship.

A brief rain shower puts things on hold for the Pro-Stock drivers before qualifying.



 Alexis Dejoria seems to have  her Funny Car on a rail in Las Vegas as she and her Tequila Patron team are currently qualified #4.
The team is making a ton of horsepower as her top end trap speed has been over 305 mph.
 The team runs under the Connie Kalitta umbrella and teammate DHL Driver Jeff Arend is also in the field as the number 11 qualifier

Who has taken his team west this year to Las Vegas , but none other than Pat Dakin .



After Friday's qualifying at the Las Vegas Nationals 2 who is number 1 qualifier in Top Fuel?
 None other than Copart.com driver Brandon Bernstein.
That is good news for the Kenny Bernstein owned team as the team has been working hard after a tire blew on their rail during a 300 MPH pass destroying the dragster chassis.
Luckily for driver  Brandon ,he was not injured in that accident and did a masterful job  of navigating the car out of harms way.
With 2 sessions left for all teams to qualify on Saturday, the Copart team hopes to continue to be the number 1 qualifier and parlay that into a win at Las Vegas.

You never know what type of weather will meet you at the Mac Tools U.S.Nationals.

The weekend started off with humidity and 90 degree temperatures, followed by a Sunday evening rain shower and a 40 degree drop in temperature

The 2011 season has been unusually tough for the Commercial Metal Fabricator team of Dayton, Ohio.

 The crew in past seasons has a tuneup that can get the Dakin race car down almost any track.

This season has been very frustrating for the team as clutch issues have plagued the team and kept them from qualifying from all but one race.
